Linda Sey was born in Naples (Italy) to Ghanaian parents; growing up in Italy she always knew that creativity was her forte. After finishing fashion school and working for Armani, she made the bold decision to explore another fashion capital…London. She enrolled at London College of Fashion where her hunger for international influence was fed day by day. It didn’t take long for her to understand that she needed to leave her mark in the fashion industry. While working for Burberry, in 2020 Linda founded the brand Aya Roots, following a trip to Ghana; she was able to understand the impact that African designers were making in the fashion industry, and she wanted to be part of it. Aya Roots’ concept is about exploring the different Ghanaian cultures that are unknown or forgotten by people, embroidery, weaving, appliqué and dress code for events. Lines are made to flatter the body and to represent the strong woman that comes from within. Aya in the Ghanaian Akan language means fern, which is a leaf that survives in the harshest environment, representing a powerful woman that gets recognized wherever she goes; this is what an Aya Roots garment is created for.
