Safari Kabumbe is the fashion designer behind Kabumbe Fashion . Safari fled the Democratic Republic of the Congo and lived in Uganda for several years until he came to Canada as a refugee in 2013. He followed his passion and grew his tailoring and fashion business out of his home until 2015 when he opened the Kabumbe storefront in Guildford. Where he provides uniforms, ready-to-wear, alterations and custom-made services. He is the 2019 recipient of the Best Designer award from the African Fashion and Art Movement Vancouver.
Safari gives back to the community through his work with the Nuru Training Association BC Canada. The Nuru Training Association is a non-profit established by a group of immigrant men and women who have fled wars and other forms of violation in their home countries (Eastern and Central Africa). Their initiatives are community-focused and aim to provide support wherever it is needed – their most recent project involved delivering free face masks to seniors in the community.
During the pandemic, he put his energy into designing and producing high-quality face masks. The Canadian-made masks are available to purchase on Kabumbe.com & come in a variety of African prints, colours and sizes …. and they are currently on sale!
